Going Mobile: Ad Optimization Tips

5 min read  |  by Epom

Optimizing for mobile is a big step towards higher revenue. With more people using smartphones and tablets as primary tools for online content consumption, mobile devices turn into valuable sources of traffic. Moreover, mobile friendliness is indispensable to decent user experience, because your audience expects your site to look good on every screen.

While most new websites are designed as mobile first, older resources need to undergo a thorough optimization process. This includes content, design, and, naturally, ad units. It is the latter, that most mobile publishers experience difficulties with, because ad layouts differ on desktop and mobile.

In particular, many publishers who are new to mobile sites, opt for 300*50 units that often prove to be too small to achieve decent engagement levels. A general recommendation is to choose 320*100 and 300*250 units instead, because such ads demonstrate up to 22% higher eCPM. When placed correctly, these units don't prevent users from seeing the website content they actually came for, which accounts for better UX.

Follow these instructions to optimize your ad blocks for mobile devices:

  1. Log in to your account and create an ad block with either the 320*100 or the 300*250 format,
  2. Change the HTMLcode on your website correspondingly,
  3. In order to achieve optimal results follow these recommendations for ad placement:
